There are several contests that the club runs during the calendar year.

The rules are as follows:

Only a paid-up member of VHFC fish will count.
All lapsed dues must be paid up a minimal of 24 hours prior to any fish weighted-in.
The fish must be weighed in at one of our official weigh-in stations (we currently have 3) (see main page).
The fish must be caught in Ocean County, NJ waters, or from a boat, which left from Ocean County and returned to Ocean County.
All Fish must be weigh-in within 24 hours of being caught (the weigh-in is for the day the fish was caught).
The fish must be legally caught and legal size fish (NJ rules).
The member, not someone else in their place, must weigh in the fish in and that member must sign the weigh-in sheet.
Co-members and Junior members (as defined in our By-laws) are also eligible (and must weigh-in and sign for their own fish).

There are two yearlong contests:

Captain Melanie Boytos Inshore Slam Award (VHFC Angler of the Year (A o Y) Details ). The annual winners name will be engraved onto a plaque that will be displayed at the VHFC clubhouse. Also a one of a kind T-Shirt indicating the winner of the contest will be awarded to the winner of contest.

The fish of the year. Trophies will be awarded to the anglers catching the largest fish in each of the following species:

	Winter Flounder
	Blackfish
	Weakfish
	Bluefish
	Fluke
	Sea Bass
	Striped Bass

Now there are two monthly contest.

The largest fish caught during the month will be rewarded a $50 gift certificate to Fisherman’s Headquarters (no expiration).

Currently the fish of the month are:

March/April             -   Winter Flounder

May                           -   Striped Bass

June                           -   Fluke

July                            -   Bluefish

August                        -   Fluke & Sea Bass

September                  -   Sea Bass & Weakfish

October/November   -   Bluefish & Striped Bass

New Program----VHFC Tournament Days

The VHFC will have a new tournament program for 2010, simply known as a VHFC Tournament Day. The tournament days will consist of 1 or in some cases 2 days (weekends). It is easy to participate and the rules are simple.
Catch the designated species on the designated day or days, weigh it in at the Sponsoring Tackle shop and the 1st, 2^nd, and 3^rd heaviest fish of the designated species will win gift certificates for that tackle shop. All eligible fish MUST be weighed in at the sponsoring Tackle Shop. No pre-registration, no entry fee, and all members in good standing are eligible.

VHFC club weigh slips will be used and as always it is the member’s responsibility to make sure all information is accurate and correct.

The first tournament is scheduled to be a 2 day season opener for fluke and here are the parameters----

Striped BassTournament dates 5/15/ to 6/30 2011

Boundaries are Ocean County waters and down and south to Wreck Inlet . Registration points, Fishermans Headquarters, Oceanside Bait and Tackle, Barnegat Bay Bait and Tackle, Chumbucket and and The American Sportsman. Entry fee is $20, its open to all fisherman, not just club members, and the prizes are first place 25%, 2nd place 15% and 3rd place 10% of total registration fees.

Only one prize per angler.

Registration MUST be MINIMAL of 24 HOURS before WEIGH-IN !

For the contest the weight-in stations will be:

Fishermans Headquarters, Barnegat Bay Bait and Tackle, Chumbucket and The American Sportsman.
